Orem Dental Hygiene College to Award Three Honorary Doctor of Dental Hygiene Degrees

Orem, Utah --- The state’s largest dental hygiene college will confer an honorary Doctor of Dental Hygiene on its commencement speaker, Senator John Valentine, on Monday.

As controversies surrounding would-be recipients of honorary degrees are taking grip in the news and dividing college faculty and students, the Utah College of Dental Hygiene is pleased about the excitement on campus for its honorary degree recipients.

Senator Valentine will deliver the UCDH commencement address at the Covey Center for the Arts in Provo on Monday, April 27, 2009, where the college is graduating fifty-five candidates for Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene degrees and awarding three honorary Doctor of Dental Hygiene degrees. In addition to Senator Valentine, the college will confer honorary degrees on Chieko Okazaki and Trisha Nunn.

Okazaki is the former first counselor in the general Relief Society presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and currently serves as a member of the Utah College of Dental Hygiene’s advisory board. Nunn is the dean and co-director of dental hygiene at the Utah College of Dental Hygiene. College President Dr. Ken Molen will confer all degrees on behalf of the college at its commencement.
