Thank you for choosing to participate in the Dental Hygiene Program at UCDH.  Students are educated to perform the following services to laboratory or clinical competency.  The dental hygiene program offer the following services based on the student/faculty assessment of your dental hygiene needs (services provided only after assessment has been authorized):

• Health history assessment
• Extra-oral & intra-oral exam, including oral cancer screening
• Referral
• Periodontal risk assessment
• Oral hygiene evaluation and preventative measures
• Patient education
• Fluoride treatment
• Radiographs (x-rays)
• Pit and fissure sealants
• Nutrition counseling
• Impressions and study models
• Oral prophylaxis (cleaning)
• Oral prosthesis cleaning (Cleaning Dentures and partial dentures)
• Non-surgical periodontal therapy
• Additional indicated periodontal (gum) therapy, including local antimicrobials (medications)
• Local anesthesia
• Smoothing and polishing restorations (fillings)
• Mechanical and chemical curettage (gum therapy)
• Smoking cessation
• Tooth whiting (Bleaching)
• Bleaching trays
